Bennett breaks school record as swim Bucs beat G-W in dual home meet

BUCKHANNON – The Buckhannon-Upshur swim Buccaneers won six events and downed the George Washington Patriots in a home dual outing last week at the West Virginia Wesleyan pool.

The Bucs outscored George Washington by a 57-41 score.

Buckhannon-Upshur claimed four individual events and won two relay races.

Preston Bennett won two individual events and set a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly.

He swam a first-place time of 54.40, breaking the old 12-yard mark set by Tim Squires at 55.27.

Bennett also won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.11.

The other two individual victories belonged to Reid Leonard in the 200-yard freestyle (2:13.82) and Carter Zuliani in the 100-yard freestyle (56.05).

The two relay wins belonged to Bennett, Leonard, Zuliani and Owen Caynor in the 200-yard meley relay (1:52.06) and that same foursome won the 400-yard freestyle in 3:52.66.

The Bucs were slated to compete in the Mohawk Invitational this past Saturday.

They will be back in the pool Wednesday in a dual meet with Elkins at Davis & Elkins College.
