Bennett breaks school mark for B-U swimmers in debut at Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT – Preston Bennett won two individual events and broke his own school record in the 200IM for the Buckhannon-Upshur swim Buccaneers in their 2022 debut in a four-team event at The Bridge Complex last week.

Bennett was part of all three total B-U victories.

Bennett won the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.44 breaking his own school mark from last year of 2:07.87.

He also claimed the 100-yard backstroke (56.99) and was part of the Bucs’ third win in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Reis Leonard, Owen Caynor and Carter Zuliani with a time of 1:39.90.

“Preston had a nice showing in his first meet of the season,” stated Buckhannon-Upshur first-year head coach Jenny Bennett.”

The Bucs finished third as a team with 21 points.

Robert C. Byrd won the 11-event meet with 35 points while Bridgeport was second with 31 and Notre Dame was fourth with four points.

“These kids are dedicated and have a great work ethic,” remarked Bennett. “I look for great things from this group this season.”

The Bucs were slated to swim this past Saturday in the Bridgeport Invitational.

They will be back in action next Wednesday hosting George Washington at the West Virginia Wesleyan College pool.
