Barbour County man among four new COVID-19 deaths reported Sunday in West Virginia

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Sunday that 238 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Barbour (5), Lewis (7), Randolph (3) and Webster (2) counties.

A total of 26 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 81-year old male from Wood County, a 73-year old male from Barbour County, a 65-year old male from Cabell County, and a 59-year old female from Marion County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of May 16, 2021, there have been 2,838,761 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 158,468 total cases and 2,761 deaths,” according to a press release.

About 6,426 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 149,271 people have recovered and 2,761 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.06%.

A total of 691,758 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 39% of the state.
