Barbour County man among 13 new COVID-19 deaths announced Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 446 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (3), Barbour (2), Lewis (8), Randolph (1) and Webster (1) counties.

A total of 37 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Thirteen additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 86-year old female from Morgan County, a 71-year old male from Marshall County, an 84-year old male from Morgan County, a 71-year old female from Harrison County, a 67-year old female from Putnam County, a 91-year old male from Barbour County, a 62-year old female from Ohio County, a 76-year old female from Putnam County, a 49-year old female from Berkeley County, an 83-year old female from Grant County, an 81-year old female from Harrison County, an 82-year old female from Putnam County, and an 81-year old female from Pendleton County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 8, 2021, there have been 2,518,760 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 144,820 total cases and 2,735 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 6,981 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 135,104 people have recovered and 2,735 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.77%.

A total of 369,896 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
