B-UHS Fine Arts Students of the Week: Carly Barnes and Neveah Dean

Each week Buckhannon-Upshur High School features two Fine Arts Students of the Week to highlight the work students are doing in the art world.

Performing Arts Student of the Week: Carly Barnes

Carly Barnes is a senior student at Buckhannon-Upshur High School. She is a member of the Soundwaves and thespians groups. Carly performed at the 100th dedication of the Lincoln Memorial, is a member of the WVMEA All State Choir, and has performed various solos for choir and Soundwaves.

She will be playing her first lead role in a show this spring as Sam in Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr.! Her favorite solo that she has performed in choir is from the piece titled “We Are Not Alone.”

When asked why the arts are important to her, Carly said, “I grew up in a musical family who performed primarily bluegrass. I took to singing from the very beginning and my love and passion for music only grows stronger as the years go by.”

After high school, Carly plans to become a body piercer and tattoo artist.

Visual Arts Student of the Week: Neveah Dean

Neveah Dean is a sophomore student at Buckhannon-Upshur High School. She is a member of the thespians troupe at the high school.

Carly’s favorite medium to create in is charcoal pencil on paper. Some of her favorite projects over the years include “Kill the Pen” and “Oil Paint the Eye.”

When asked why the arts are important to her, Neveah said, “[They are] an important way to express myself and help me process my emotions.”
