TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur High School cheerleaders recently competed in the Big 10 and Region I championships last week.

In the Big 10 Championships, Bridgeport won the event while Fairmont Senior was runner-up.

At the Region I meet, Wheeling Park was victorious while Bridgeport was runner-up.

“We are in a very strong region,” stated Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Christina Nestor. “It is probably the strongest in the state. In the Big 10, we were competing against five teams going to the state cheerleading competition. So it to is very competitive.”

Nestor said despite not placing, she was happy with how her team performed at both events.

“We did not place where we hoped to, but we had really strong performances at both competitions,” concluded Nestor. “Buckhannon is on the move with a young team the future is looking really bright. It takes time to build a culture and that’s what we are trying to do.”
