Alderson Broaddus students presented with awards during virtual ceremony

PHILIPPI, W.Va.—June 4, 2020—Five members of Alderson Broaddus (AB) University’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) chapter won awards during the 2020 West Virginia Phi Beta Lambda Leadership Conference that was scheduled for late March but moved to an online format due to COVID-19. West Virginia students came together virtually to compete in the 64th annual conference and tuned in to the virtual Awards of Excellence on April 13.

The Alderson Broaddus University PBL chapter won top honors in their respective divisions, qualifying them to move on to compete during the 2020 National Leadership Conference. 

Abagail Busch, a legal studies major from Eldersburg, Md. won first place for a presentation in Justice Administration and second place for Impromptu Speaking; Tiffany Hinchman, an accounting, business administration, and marketing major from Grafton, W.Va. won second place in Accounting Principles and second place in the Personal Finance category; Gray Ramsey, an accounting major from Plano, Texas was awarded second place in Parliamentary Procedures; Kiley Sparks, a business administration and marketing major from Dillsboro, Ind. won second place for excelling in the Job Interview competition; and, Zach Lyons, a sport management major from Eldersburg, Md. won second place in Contemporary Sports Issues and third place in the Sports Management & Marketing category.

In addition to the virtual awards ceremony, elections were held for the state office. Abagail Busch was re-elected to the position of WVPBL state treasurer for the 2020-21 academic year.

“Our members work hard for months practicing and preparing, hoping to do their best,” said Christian Heater, Alderson Broaddus PBL chapter president. “Our top place finishes speak to the quality of our members and our AB education.”

The West Virginia Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda has traditionally brought a large number of competitors to the National Leadership Conference. This year’s conference is being held virtually on June 24 through June 26.
