Severe weather could impact Upshur County and the surrounding areas Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Charleston warned.
“Two lines of thunderstorms are expected to form in advance of a cold front this afternoon into this evening,” the NWS said in issuing a severe thunderstorm watch. “Some of these storms may contain damaging wind gusts, large hail, and heavy downpours.”
The first line of storms was approaching Interstate 79 at about 1:10 p.m. Monday, moving east. That storm was under a severe warning with winds of up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail possible.
“Hail damage to vehicles is expected,” according to the warning, which was for the Glenville area. “Expect wind damage to roofs, siding and trees.”
