Upshur County reports a record 134 active COVID-19 cases on Sunday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Sunday that 1,152 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (14), Barbour (9), Lewis (5), Randolph (7) and Webster (2) counties.

A record high 134 cases are currently active in Upshur County, which has seen increase of 31 cases in the last two days, according to the DHHR. Sunday’s update:

  • Removed four probable and one confirmed case from Nov. 27
  • Added 15 probable and four confirmed cases to Nov. 28

Eleven additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 49-year old female from Harrison County, a 73-year old male from Kanawha County, a 47-year old female from Kanawha County, a 79-year old female from Kanawha County, an 82-year old male from Kanawha County, a 91-year old female from Cabell County, a 97-year old male from Putnam County, a 68-year old male from Wood County, a 97-year old female from Greenbrier County, a 97-year old female from Mineral County, and an 84-year old male from Marion County.

Statewide, active cases and hospitalizations continued to increase sharply on Sunday. A record 16,370 COVID-19 cases in West Virginia are currently active and more 550 people are hospitalized with the virus.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., November 29, 2020, there have been 1,122,438 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 46,997 total cases and 729 deaths,” according to a press release.

About 16,370 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 29,898 people have recovered and 729 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.79%.
