The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 274 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.
For the first time in over a week, no new cases were reported in Upshur County, although just 19 test results were processed.
In fact, one case was removed from Upshur County.
“As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested,” according to the DHHR. “Such is the case of Boone and Upshur counties in this report.”
The number of active cases in Upshur County dropped to 84 on Tuesday. On the daily alert map, Upshur is rated gold by percent positive and red by infection rate.
Upshur’s neighboring counties all reported new cases on Tuesday — Randolph had 15, Lewis had four, Barbour had one and Webster had one.
Statewide, West Virginia continues to see record numbers of new cases. The state has reported a record 1,619 new cases over the last seven days, and 4,687 cases are active, also an all-time high.
Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 84-year old male from Cabell County and an 85-year old male from Kanawha County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., October 13, 2020, there have been 644,019 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 18,555 total cases and 387 deaths,” according to a press release.
New cases were reported Tuesday in Barbour, Berkeley, Brooke, Cabell, Clay, Doddridge, Fayette, Gilmer, Grant, Greenbrier, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lewis, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Morgan, Nicholas, Ohio, Pendleton, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Ritchie, Roane, Tucker, Wayne, Webster, Wetzel, Wirt, Wood and Wyoming counties.

About 4,687 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 13,481 people have recovered and 387 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.31%.
