Police: Medical condition may have caused one-vehicle rollover in Tennerton

Firefighters and other emergency medical personnel clean up after extricating a 68-year-old Buckhannon man from a one-vehicle rollover Friday just before noon. Police believe the driver may have lost consciousness due to a medical condition prior to hitting a parked car and rolling over.

TENNERTON – A 68-year-old Buckhannon man had to be extricated from a vehicle and life-flighted after hitting a parked car and rolling.

The wreck happened on Route 20 South Friday just before noon, according to investigating officer Cpl. V.J. Pyles with the Buckhannon detachment of the West Virginia State Police. Pyles said he was dispatched to the intersection of Manchester Road near KFC after the man ran into a parked car and the vehicle he was driving subsequently rolled over.

“We are not 100 percent sure; it looks like it could be medically-related,” Pyles said. “It looks like he ran off the road to the right and no evasive action was taken to avoid the collision. He ran into a parked car that was located at 1100 Route 20 South Road.”

The man was extricated by firefighters with the Buckhannon and Adrian Volunteer fire departments and transported by Upshur EMS to the Upshur County Regional Airport, where he was life-flighted to a hospital outside of Upshur County.

Firefighters with the Buckhannon and Adrian Volunteer fire departments had to extricate a 68-year-old Buckhannon man from his vehicle following a wreck that occurred involving a parked car just before noon on Friday.

The parked vehicle was unoccupied when the vehicle struck it and then rolled over on its side, Pyles said.

“We’re pretty certain it’s going to be something medically-related as to why he ran off the road,” he said. “Judging by what I saw there, it indicated he wasn’t conscious when he wrecked.”

Pyles said he could not release the man’s name and was not sure about the nature of his injuries since he was flown to another hospital.
