Upshur County residents encouraged to vote by mail with three simple steps

Attention Upshur County residents:

Upshur County Clerk Carol Smith is encouraging all Upshur County residents to vote via absentee ballot due to COVID-19.

Postcards explaining options for obtaining an absentee ballot were mailed April 8. Note that the postcard application for an absentee ballot cannot be used to register to vote, change your address or change your name.

There are three simple steps for voting an absentee-by-mail ballot:

  1. The voter submits an absentee ballot application to the County Clerk’s Office;
  2. Once approved, the County Clerk will mail a postage prepaid absentee ballot with instructions and materials to the voter;
  3. The voter marks the absentee ballot according to the instructions and places it in the mail to be postmarked by Election Day, June 9, 2020.

Pursuant to a directive by Secretary of State Mac Warner, fear of contracting or spreading the novel coronavirus is sufficient reason to vote an Absentee Ballot. Please mark the box: “Illness, injury or other medical reason which keeps me confined.”

Please return your completed absentee ballot application as soon as possible to assist with processing times.

Also note that polling locations are subject to change due to COVID-19 constraints. Information will be released on the County Clerk’s webpage as soon as it becomes available. Stay informed by checking for updates at http://www.upshurcounty.org/government/county_clerk.php
