One-vehicle rollover shuts down Route 33, sends one to hospital

LORENTZ – At least one person was transported to the hospital with possible injuries in the wake of a one-vehicle rollover that shut down the eastbound lane of U.S. Route 33 and left large shards of broken glass and debris strewn across the highway.

According to scanner traffic, the accident occurred just before 10 p.m. Monday night when a vehicle rolled over at least four times in the eastbound lane of Route 33.

Firefighters on scene said it appeared the driver of a red Chevrolet Colorado veered toward the median, causing the truck’s vehicle to get snagged in the edge of the median separating the eastbound and westbound lanes.

The truck rolled over multiple times as a result, finally coming to a rest on its side on the opposite side of the highway. The driver was transported to WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital by Upshur EMS but did not have to be extricated from the vehicle and appeared to be conscious.

A second two-vehicle rear-end type collision also occurred in the eastbound lane of 33 behind the scene of the first motor vehicle accident.

The Buckhannon Fire Department and multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Buckhannon Police Department, Upshur County Sheriff’s Department and Buckhannon detachment of the West Virginia State Police responded to the wreck.
