Green Bean walk-stroll-run-ride scheduled for Aug. 10

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — Tuesday evening at the First Presbyterian Church in Buckhannon, the organizers of the Fourth Annual Green Bean Celebration held the first planning meeting of 2019.

Organized in 2016 by Dr. Joseph Reed, the events leading up to the celebration are designed to promote volunteerism, agriculture, healthy nutrition, and to gather fresh green beans for Parish House meals. Previous events have included a recipe contest, art/writing competition, social snapping and growing green beans.

It was decided that the capstone event, walk/stroll/run/ride will take place on Aug. 10 at the Riverwalk.

This year organizers are hoping to raise $1,000 and to gather 20 bushels of green beans for the Parish House. By supporting the Green Bean Celebration, you will help stamp out hunger, promote volunteerism, encourage healthy nutrition and encourage agriculture through individual vegetable gardening while helping to stock the Parish House pantry.

The committee would like to invite local neighbors to be a part of the celebration. How about developing a dish with a green bean focus and being a part of a cook-off event? How about helping to snap beans at one of several social gatherings planned during the Spring and Summer?

Maybe help support the cause by purchasing a t-shirt – or four? Share your ideas and get involved in the family-friendly event and make a difference.

Everyone is invited to walk, run, or stroll on August 10th (costumes are encouraged) at the Riverwalk.
