Michael Scott McNemar, age 54, of Buckhannon, WV, and formerly of Petersburg, WV, died Thursday, July 23, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born February 17, 1972, in Weston, WV, a son of the late Jasper C. and Sandra K. Sholes McNemar. On August 4, 2000, he married Kathryn Huffman, who survives.
Also surviving are four siblings, Janie Rodriguez of Buckhannon, Timothy McNemar of Ripley, WV, Robert McNemar of Charleston, WV, and Melissa McNemar of Buckhannon; two half-siblings, Linda Pierce of Parkersburg, WV, and Donald McNemar and wife Nila of Petersburg, WV; two sisters-in-law, Rena Hamrick of Fairmont, WV, and Cynthia Huffman of Myrtle Beach, SC; one brother-in-law, David Huffman of Keyser, WV; numerous nieces and nephews; two great-nieces; and several friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-sister, Patricia Yoho; half-brother, John McNemar; and parents-in-law, Aldace L. and Judy Huffman.
Mr. McNemar was a beloved science teacher who was dedicated to his students, enjoyed seeing them excel, and was honored to take them to the state science fair. He was also a giving community member who was active in his local Ruritan Club in Petersburg, WV. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Friends will be received Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Bailey Cemetery in Buckhannon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Grant County High School (athletic or science department), 204 Jefferson Ave., Petersburg, WV 26847.
