Buckhannon hosts a sizzling showcase as 2024 Almost Heaven BBQ Bash comes to town June 13-15

BUCKHANNON — The charming small town of Buckhannon is gearing up for the largest and most dynamic Almost Heaven BBQ Bash yet. This year, 44 competitive teams from various states will converge on the town for a weekend of fiery competition and family fun.

Slated to run from June 13 to 15 at Jawbone Park in downtown Buckhannon, the Bash kicks off with a special “sneak peek” event on Thursday evening, offering attendees an early taste of what’s to come. Jody Light, the president of the Bash, said the competition will feature 32 master and 12 backyard teams — a notable increase from last year. Of those, half the master’s teams are making their debut at the event as the Almost Heaven BBQ Bash’s reputation continues to grow beyond state lines.

But this year’s Bash isn’t just about barbeque. With five BBQ vendors and 10 additional food options, visitors can enjoy everything from Rex’s Calzones to JoJo’s Tacos, ensuring a palate for every taste.

New this year, Woody’s Bowling Center will host a bowling and pool tournament on Thursday evening, promising fun and prizes. The Almost Heaven BBQ Bash headquarters will be conveniently located in the former Fox’s Pizza spot beside Jawbone Park. Stop by for event information, merchandise or assistance.

As attendees enjoy the culinary delights, they can also partake in various activities spread over the three days, including live performances, a car cruise-in, craft displays and interactive games. The entertainment lineup promises continuous engagement with acts like the Rox Band of WV and Ryan Cain and The Ables, alongside family-friendly activities like cake walks and a dedicated beer garden for adults.

For a detailed schedule and regular updates, attendees and enthusiasts are encouraged to follow the Almost Heaven BBQ Bash Facebook page, ensuring they don’t miss out on any of the action planned for this must-visit event in the heart of West Virginia.
