Obituary Melvin Riley

Melvin C. Riley, 78, of Cleveland, W.Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at his home.

He was born Feb. 29, 1940, at Kanawha Head, W.Va., a son of the late Charity Rebecca Riley and Sherman R. Riley.

On Dec. 10, 1982, he was united in marriage to Elsie “Jane” Beer Riley, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters: Taunya and husband Tim Smock of Ashtabula, Ohio and Rebecca and husband James “Jimmy” Tunning of Rock Cave; two sons: Rodney Riley and wife Tammy of Jefferson, Ohio and Sherman Riley of Cleveland, W.Va.; two grandsons: Rodney “RJ” Riley, Jr. of Jefferson, OH and Cameron “CJ” Wilfong of Willowick, OHhio; three sisters: Ada Range of Weston, Thelma Humphrey of Fredericksburg, Va., and Mary Moore of Kanawha Head; and one brother Estal Riley of Cleveland, W.Va.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers: Roy Riley and Hoy “Alfred” Riley and two sisters: Bessie Anderson and Jessie Haymond.

Mr. Riley was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved being in the woods, whether it be walking, hunting, timbering, or working on the sawmill.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at 11 a.m., at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery at Kanawha Head, where the Upshur County Honor Guard and the Patriot Guard Riders will conduct military honors.
