As West Virginians gear up for Christmas celebrations, the West Virginia State Police urge drivers to buckle up, slow down, and stay alert to avoid tragedies on the roads. With increased traffic expected during the holidays, the risk of accidents also rises. The West Virginia State Police is committed to keeping our roads safe and will have extra troopers on patrol throughout the state.
“We want everyone to enjoy a happy and safe holiday season,” said Colonel J.C. Chambers, Superintendent of the West Virginia State Police. “Please take your time behind the wheel, avoid distractions, and never get behind the wheel if you have been drinking.”
The West Virginia State Police offers the following tips for safe holiday driving:
- Always wear your seat belt and make sure all passengers are buckled up as well.
- Obey the speed limit and slow down in bad weather conditions.
- Avoid distractions such as texting, talking on the phone, or eating while driving.
- Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Allow extra time for travel so you don’t feel rushed.
