Wesleyan women fall late on the road to Notre Dame, 69-66

SOUTH EUCLID (Ohio) — With a four-point lead going into the final four minutes, the West Virginia Wesleyan College Lady Bobcats could not hold on, and fell to the Notre Dame College (Ohio) Falcons 69-66 on the road, Saturday.

The Falcons jumped out to an early lead, pulling away by 10 in the game’s first five minutes and the Bobcats women found themselves down 23-17 after the first quarter. The Falcons would stretch its lead to 12 midway into the second frame and take a 45-37 advantage into the halftime locker room.

But the Lady Bobcats blazed back in the third, outscoring Notre Dame 21-10 with a 4-of-5 effort from three-point land and a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Its third quarter dominance, however, was nullified by cold shooting in the fourth. Wesleyan scored just eight points with a 40 percent shooting performance and the lead the Lady Bobcats had garnered with 4:22 on the clock in third, disappeared.

Wesleyan’s Charlotte Sherrill led all scorers with 18 points in 21 minutes of court time. Sydney Baird and Cadence Stewart dropped in an additional nine points each, and Daveona Hatchell added to her rebound total with eight to go along with six points.

The Lady Bobcats are off until after the holiday break when action returns to Rockefeller Center. Wesleyan hosts Concord College Wednesday, Jan. 10 for a 5:30 tip. Admission to the Rock is free.
