Philippi, WV — Logoed cookies, balloons and spectators marked the ribbon-cutting celebration Wednesday for the Broaddus Medical Care clinic in Philippi.
It is Broaddus Hospital’s biggest expansion of medical services since the hospital opened in 2000.
“We have a much bigger roof for all the people that care for you, and that’s our goal. We want to continue to grow, we want to continue to expand, and we want to keep everybody home,” said Garrett Butler, MD, Chief of Staff for Broaddus Hospital.
Other ceremonial keynote speakers included Broaddus CEO Dana Gould; Davis Health System Chief Medical Officer Catherine Chua, DO; David Strait, Broaddus Registered Nurse and Barbour County Commissioner; Barbour County native and Field Representative for Senator Shelley Moore Capito Jessicah Cross; and Wendy Madden, Representative for Senator Joe Manchin.
Spectators and attendees met with clinic providers and staff who shared information about clinic services, and offered free health screenings, education and discounted lab tests. They also toured the facility, and the CAMC Mobile Unit that will bring additional specialty care via telemedicine visits to the Broaddus campus.
“Bigger isn’t always better,” said Strait referring to the value of community hospitals and community healthcare. “This is where we put “care” back into healthcare.”
The new Broaddus Medical Care includes a full suite of family medicine services for adults and children including walk-in care where no appointment is needed to see a provider. The family care team includes Garrett Butler, MD, Eric Anger, MD, Terry Hummer, MD, Shane Ritchie, APRN, FNP-BC, and Lindsay Arbogast, APRN, FNP-BC.
Women’s health providers include Certified Nurse Midwives Brittany Breeden, APRN, CNM, Morgan McKinney, APRN, CNM, and Hannah Sulver, APRN, CNM. Nurse midwives provide a variety of gynecological care for women in their early teens through post menopause.
Podiatrist Hal Zorger, DPM, and Foot and Ankle Surgeons/Podiatrists Dr. Michael Hurst, DPM and Dr. Hannah Hughes, DPM see patients for general podiatry and advanced foot and ankle surgical needs.
The Broaddus Wound Center, which has been recognized nationally for outstanding patient care, patient outcomes and patient satisfaction, is also located in Broaddus Medical Care. The Center is led by Wound Specialist Emily Starks, APRN, FNP-C.
“Our care team is excited about the change in location,” said Gould. “Continuum of care and access to care are definitely improved when you have your family medicine and specialty care teams working under one roof.”
