Betty S. Heavner

Betty S. Heavner, age 81, of Buckhannon, died Monday, January 30, 2023, after a lengthy illness, with her loving family by her side.  She was born October 5, 1941, at Alexander, WV, a daughter of the late Loyal Creed and Maureen Delta Snyder Reger.

On October 2, 1959, she was united in marriage to the Rev. Robert F. Heavner, who survives. Also surviving are one son Dr. Randy Heavner (fiancée Nichole) of Parkersburg, WV; two daughters:  Michelle (Darrell) Linger and Debbie (Brent) Cutright, both of Buckhannon; five grandchildren: Christopher R. Heavner of Parkersburg, Patrick D. (Saran) Heavner of Tyler, TX, Dr. Nathaniel S. (Lorilyn) Linger of Buckhannon, Kayla B. Linger of Cranberry Township, PA, and Nicholas T. (April) Cutright of Buckhannon; four great grandchildren:  Alexia R., Gatlin E., and Derek T. Heavner and Evelyn O. “Evie” Linger; one brother Neil (Cheryl) Reger of Buckhannon; one sister Rosalea McKisic of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one great grandson Riley D. Heavner.

Betty was a Methodist by faith and member of the French Creek United Methodist Church; but had attended the many churches Bob was pastoring over the years.  She was employed as a teller and later in the loan department of Adrian-Buckhannon Bank and retired from the loan department of United National Bank in Weston in 1998.  Following her retirement from banking, she assisted her daughter and son-in-law at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel.  She was an excellent cook and loved to bake cookies, cakes, and pies for her friends, family, and especially her grandchildren.

Her fiercely competitive spirit shone through whether she was on the golf course, where she made her first hole-in-one in her 70s, playing games with the family (especially Rook and Bridge), or never missing a WVU football or basketball game and the chance to cheer her Mountaineers to a victory.  Some of her fondest memories were made at Myrtle Beach—a “second home” she dearly loved visiting.  She was an avid shopper who could “out-shop” all of the younger members of her family.

In the summer months, she could often be found working in her flower or vegetable gardens and growing beautiful flowers and produce from seed to fruition.  Most of all though, she loved caring for and preparing a table full of food for her family and will leave an empty chair at the table that can never be filled.

The family sincerely appreciates the care of Miranda Ford and WVU Hospice.

Private services will be held for the family with the Rev. Gary McGrew officiating and private interment will be made in the Rocky Ford Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Upshur Cooperative Parish House, 68 College Avenue, Buckhannon, WV 26201 or the Buckhannon Christian Academy, PO Box 844, Buckhannon, WV 26201.

Online condolences may be extended to the Heavner family at www.heavnerandcutright.com. The Cutright family of Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel will be conducting the services for their dear mother and grandmother.
