Gene Arvin Currence, age 81, of Buckhannon, WV, died Friday, December 16, 2022, at WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born January 6, 1941, in Hemlock, WV, a son of the late Elza and Freda Mazie Tenney Currence.
On April 29, 1961, he married Lora Zickefoose who survives. Also surviving, one son, John Mitchell Currence and wife Tammy of Buckhannon; one daughter, Laura Lynn Propst and husband Mike of Philippi, WV; one daughter in law, Susan Currence of Buckhannon; five grandsons, Michael Ralph Currence and wife Brittany, Brooks Ashton Gene Currence and wife Ariel and Cameron Elza Currence and wife Emily all of Buckhannon, Salathiel Propst and wife Nessa of Philippi and Ryan McAtee of Beckley, WV; two granddaughters, Jessica Howes and husband Jimbob of Buckhannon and Shannon Sanders and husband Matt of WA; fourteen great-grandchildren; four brothers, Kenneth Maynard Currence and wife Sandy of Buckhannon, William “Sonny” Currence and wife Lurae and Dennis “Ping” Currence and wife Brenda all of Queens, WV and Dale Currence and wife Kelley of Buckhannon; three sisters, Ilene Murray and husband Pat of Buckhannon, Joyce White of Philippi and Twila Abel and husband Phil of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, infant Randall Gail Currence and Michael Gene Currence.
Mr. Currence was a Coal Miner and a member of the Faith Baptist Church of Buckhannon. He loved to hunt, fish and watch NASCAR.
Friends will be received Tuesday, December 20, 2022, from 4 PM to 8 PM at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, at the Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Church Cemetery at Hemlock, WV.
