Beat the heat with history: Historical Society launches 2022 summer exhibit, ‘From the Ice Age to the Modern Age’

BUCKHANNON — The Upshur County Historical Society is pleased to present its annual Summer Exhibit titled “From the Ice Age to the Modern Age.”

This collection showcases a chronological timeline of Upshur County history beginning with how the Ice Age impacted the waterways we have today across West Virginia, according to Noel Tenney with the Upshur County Historical Society. The exhibit leads visitors on a personal journey through Upshur County’s history through the lens of eras, major events and the impact of many important figures.

Residents and visitors can view the exhibit at the Upshur County History Museum, located at 81 W. Main St., on Sunday afternoons from 1-4 p.m. through Sept. 25, 2022.

With many man-hours invested into the collection of artifacts by Upshur County Historical Society members and donors, this unique exhibit will prove intriguing to history buffs both near and far, Tenney said.

Visitors have the opportunity to learn about local heritage with authentic artifacts from that time period available before their eyes. The collection includes original artifacts, photos, historical documents and clothing, among other rare pieces on display. Permanent exhibits shown at the museum year-round are also available for guests to appreciate.

Donations to the Historical Society and its Summer Exhibit are not expected but are greatly appreciated as they wish to continue using this space for local, historic preservation for many years to come. Reading materials, such as the Upshur County Historical Society Newsletter and Journal, are available for purchase.
