Davis Health launches 100 Miles in 100 Days

Elkins, W.Va. – Davis Health System (DHS) is encouraging community residents to take a step toward better health by joining the 100 Miles in 100 Days wellness program. This year, it will run June 23 through October 1, 2022.

DHS has sponsored the program for more than 15 years with a mission to inspire healthy living through movement.

“This program has had great participation in the past,” said Chad Ware, Community Liaison for DHS.  “It’s simple, and can help people improve their health.  We have individuals, families and even co-workers successfully complete it each year.”

100 Miles in 100 Days is a self-directed wellness initiative that puts participants in charge: they decide what time of day to walk and where to walk.  It is also acceptable to substitute running, swimming, hiking and other forms of cardio-activity. (20 minutes of other exercise equals 1 mile.)

Officials hope that with COVID-19 on the decline, people are ready to resume normal activities and get their health goals back on track.

This year, program information and registration will be available online only.  On the 100 Miles website (www.dhs100miles.com), persons can complete their registration form, download tracking sheets, sign up for program app and learn more about the program.

Those who successfully complete the program by logging at least one mile each day, will earn a t-shirt at the program’s end.

“We have made some changes to help participants stay on track throughout the 100 days, and ease overall coordination of the program,” said Ware. 

In addition to online registration, people can also sign up at a Kick-Off event on June 23, 2022 during the Our Town event at the Elkins Depot.  Davis Health System will have a tent near the depot from 6 to 7 PM. 

Those new to physical activity should check with a doctor to make sure it is safe to begin walking as a regular activity.
