Track and Field Bucs win home meet taking 10 events

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur boy’s track and field team was dominant in a small five-team home meet with East Fairmont, Tygarts Valley, Pocahontas County and Pendleton County last Tuesday at Freal “Red” Crites Memorial Stadium.

The Bucs won 10 of the 16 events held amassing 143 points edging out runner-up East Fairmont who compiled 126 points.

Tygarts Valley was a distant third with 42 points while Pocahontas County was fourth with 18 points and Pendleton County tallied just one point.

The Bucs won six individual events and swept all four relay events.

Picking up the individual firsts were Taiwo Thropp in the 100-meter dash (11.24), Sterlin Thropp in the 200-meter dash (22.45), Shawn Blandino in the 400-meter dash (51.92), Jordan Gillum in the 800-meter run (2:09.78), Chase Hackett in the 300-meter hurdles (45.50) and Landon Zirkle in the pole vault (9-00).

The relay wins belonged to Camden Snyder, Savion Farmer, Sterlin Thropp and Taiwo Thropp in the 4×100-meter relay (45.10), Julien Larcher, Blandino, Sterlin Thropp and Taiwo Thropp in the 4×200-meter relay (1:33.74), Blandino, Larcher, Sterlin Thropp and Gillum in the 4×400-meter relay (3:31.84) and Reis Leonard, Carter Zuliani, Chase Hackett and Zade Woody in the 4×110-meter shuttle hurdle (1:06.61).

 The Bucs earned six runner-up spots that belonged to Blandino in the 100-meter dash (11.35), Gillum in the 400-meter dash (53.86), Jack Waggy in the 1600-meter (4:55.28), Snyder in the long jump (18-10.5), Dalton Crites in the shot put (39-11) and Dirk Riley in the discus (121-03).

Getting thirds were Zuliani in the 110-meter hurdles (17.92), Brycen Allen in the 300-meter hurdles (49.71), Larcher in the pole vault (8-00) and Farmer in the long jump (18-09.5).

The Bucs were slated to run last Thursday in the Ritchie County Invitational.

They will compete again this Tuesday in a home meet starting at 4:15 p.m.
