JV Bucs use strong fourth quarter to down Elkins, 48-38

ELKINS – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers used a dominant fourth quarter to earn a 48-38 win over the homestanding Elkins Tigers in a battle Wednesday night.

The JV Bucs and Elkins were tied at 36-36 heading into the final quarter, but B-U limited Elkins to just one field goal and two points as they pulled away for the 10-point win.

The two teams battled to an 11-11 deadlock after one quarter with Luke Yardley scoring six points, Keyton Lanier and Jonas Barton two each and Carter Zuliani one.

B-U dominated the second quarter winning it by a 14-4 margin taking a 25-15 lead at the break.

Jaden Westfall tallied seven points, Shawn Blandino had four and Nathaniel Ringer three for the JV Bucs in the second quarter.

Elkins tied the game in the third quarter at 36-36, winning the stanza by a 21-11 margin.

Blandino had 10 points and Westfall and one in the third quarter for the JV Bucs.

The JV Bucs pulled away in the final quarter, winning it 12-2 with Ringer scoring five points, Yardley three, and Barton two each. Blandino led the JV Bucs with 14 points while Yardley had nine. Brock Holland had 17 points to pace Elkins.

The JV Bucs are now 6-8 on the season. They will return to action Saturday at Philip Barbour for a 5:45 p.m. start.
