The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Sunday that 1,127 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.
Six additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 57-year old male from Randolph County, a 72-year old female from Taylor County, an 84-year old male Marion County, an 86-year old male from Grant County, an 81-year old female from Kanawha County, and a 72-year old female from Grant County.
“Words cannot convey the despair we feel over each and every life lost to this terrible virus,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary, in a press release.
Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (11), Barbour (3), Lewis (6) and Webster (2) counties.
A total of 104 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR. Sunday’s update:
- Added three probable and nine confirmed cases on Dec. 19
- Removed three probable cases and added one confirmed case on Dec. 17
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of December 20, 2020, there have been 1,386,096 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 72,342 total cases and 1,128 deaths,” according to a press release.
About 22,634 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 48,580 people have recovered and 1,128 have died. The daily percent positive was 9.4%.
