XC Little Lady Bucs take first at Barbour County; Little Bucs place second

PHILIPPI – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Buc and Little Lady Buc cross-country teams competed in the Down in the Backwoods Middle School Invitational in Barbour County on Tuesday.

The Little Lady Bucs won the team title while the Little Bucs claimed runner-up honors.

For the Little Lady Bucs, they outdistanced second place Elkins by 11 points as B-UMS amassed 30 points and Elkins had 41. Belington was third with 80 and Central Preston rounded out the team scoring in fourth with 81 points.

Madison Knabenshue was the top runner for the Little Lady Bucs placing third with a time of 14:47.97.

Everyone scoring for the Little Lady Bucs finished in the top 10 as Lena Rose Walker ran fifth (15:08.59), Gwendolyn Rogosky ran sixth (15:16.69), Isabella Bowers ran seventh (15:22.62) and Chloe Lewis ran ninth (15:32.91).

The Little Lady Bucs had three other runners place in the top 20 as Bristol Zirkle finished 10th (15:33.22), Mya Loudin finished 16th (16:48.99) and Makenna Marsh finished 17th (16:50.87).

Molly McFadden of Elkins won the race with a time of 14:03.17 while her teammate Ava White was second with a clocking of 14:40.14.

For the boys, they placed second with a score of 60 points while Elkins won the team title with 28 points.

Belington was third with 72 points and Washington Irving was fourth with 74 points.

Scoring for the Little Bucs were Briston Hyre in fifth (13:36.96), Kenton Stump in sixth (13:37.11), Lucas Fortney in 13th (14:35.84), Grayson Malcolm in 22nd (15:39.46) and Kylan Hedrick in 25th (15:49.16).

Jacob Burner of Belington won the race with a time of 13:05.73 while Treven Schaefer of Elkins was second with a clocking of 13:19.30.

Both teams will be back in action running at Elkins Saturday. The Little Lady Bucs will run at 1 p.m. while the Little Bucs will run at 1:30 p.m.
