XC Bucs run 10th at Knight Night Relays

KINGWOOD – In the highly unique Preston Knight Night Relays, the Buckhannon-Upshur cross-country Buccaneers finished 10th out of 39 teams from 13 high schools Saturday night.

Considered more of a ‘fun run,’ the teams are split up into relay teams and run at night under the lights of the Preston High School athletic field lights with additional lighting from tiki torches and natural moonlight.

The Bucs finished with a time of 33:32.8 to finish 10th. University’s A-Team won the event with a time of 30:44.8 while the University B-Team was runner-up with a combined time of 31:06.7.

University’s Drew Zundell had the top split time ranking running his portion of the race in 7:14.2

Jack Waggy had the best split time for the Bucs finishing 11th out of 177 runners with a time of 7:45.5. His teammates were Joey Nolte with an 8:19.5, Isaac Snodgrass with a time of 8:48.2, and Alex Sappey with a time of 8:39.7.

The Buckhannon-Upshur B-Team consisted of an incomplete team of two runners – Jeremy Allman (9:11.7) and Bryce Allman (9:57.3).

“The boys ran hard and competed really well,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Taylor Stacy. “It was a good showing for how young and inexperienced out team is.”

The Bucs will be back in action Saturday hosting their lone home meet of the year with a start time of 9:45 a.m.
