XC Bucs place fifth in debut in St. Marys Autumn Classic

ST. MARYS – The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers opened their 2024 season in the massive 18-team St. Marys Autumn Classic this past Saturday.

The Bucs finished an impressive fifth out of the 18 teams with 171 points.

St. Marys won their own classic with 119 points while Charleston Catholic was second with 122 points while Grafton was third with 144 and Williamstown was fourth with 150.

Jack Waggy was the top B-U runner finishing 10th with a time of 16:43.40.

Two other Bucs finished in the top 25 out of 164 runners as Joey Nolte placed 17th with a time of 17:01.03 while Alex Sappey was 22nd with a clocking of 17:21.57.

The rest of the B-U line-up was Kenton Stump (18:35.61) in 56th, Isaac Snodgrass in (19:39.95) in 82nd and Bryce Mullens (22:13.33) in 125th.

Amos Kimble of Tyler Consolidated won the race with a time of 15:29.66 while Julian Johnson of Williamstown was second with a time of 16:07.16 and MJ Niggemyer of Grafton was third with a time of 16:16.28.

B-U’s Samantha Shreve ran as the lone Lady Buc at the event and finished third out of 135 runners with a time of 17:55.26.

Alyssa Sauro of Williamstown won the race with a time of 17:12.35 while Maysen Fletcher of Herbert Hoover was second.

Williamstown won the girls’ team title with 58 points.

The Bucs will be back in action Tuesday at University for a 4 p.m. meet.
