WVWC’s Starosta named MEC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s Male and Female Tennis Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
West Virginia Wesleyan’s Ricardo Starosta is the MEC Male Tennis Player of the Week and Sofiia Krasikova of Charleston is the MEC Female Tennis Player of the Week.
 
Starosta, a sophomore from Rio Grande do Sol, Brazil, went 3-0 on the week as the Bobcats cruised to a pair of non-conference shutout wins. Starosta posted a 6-2 6-4 straight-set win at No. 3 singles as Wesleyan cruised to a 4-0 victory over Shaw (N.C.). He contributed a pair of points to the Bobcats’ 7-0 blanking of West Chester (Pa.) with a 6-0 6-1 straight-set win at No. 2 singles and a 6-2 decision at No. 2 doubles.
 
A junior from Castellon, Spain, Krasikova helped lead UC to a pair of impressive wins during the week. In No. 2 doubles action, she teamed with Michelle Connor to win matches in a 5-2 win against regional foe Indiana (Pa.) and a 4-0 shutout of Frostburg State. She also posted a straight-set win at No. 1 singles vs. IUP and was leading her No. 1 singles match vs. Frostburg State when Charleston clinched the victory.
