WVWC’s Cash named MEC Indoor Track and Field Female Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Liberty’s Reese Burnside and West Virginia Wesleyan’s Samantha Cash were recognized as this week’s MEC Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week.

The MEC Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Burnside, a junior from West Union, West Virginia, broke his own school record in the pole vault with a 4.80m (15’9”) performance over the weekend at the Muskingum Meet. He turned in a first-place finish at the event, as well as hitting an NCAA Provisional Mark with the performance. This season, he currently ranks first in the MEC and 15th nationally in the event.

Cash, a junior from Denton, Md., garnered a NCAA Provisional Mark in the triple jump (11.76 meters, 38’7”) at Marshall’s Alumni Classic in Huntington. She came in first place at the event and also set a school record with her triple jump performance. She currently ranks first in the MEC in the event. In addition, Cash also ran a 9.15 in the 60-meter hurdles over the weekend, a mark that currently leads the conference.
