WVWC’S Baird named MEC Female Golfer of the Week

BRIDGEPORT – The Mountain East Conference has announced this week’s Male and Female Golfers of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

West Liberty’s Justin Doerr has been named the MEC Male Golfer of the Week while Sydney Baird of West Virginia Wesleyan earned MEC Female Golfer of the Week honors.

Doerr, a sophomore from Wheeling, W.Va., finished in a tie for 10th place at the inaugural Sunnehanna Collegiate in Johnstown, Pa. with a 36-hole score of 144. The Wheeling Central Catholic graduate posted rounds of even-par 70 and 4-over-par 74 to secure the Top 10 finish.

Baird, a sophomore from Webster Springs, W.Va., took medal honors over the weekend at the West Liberty Invitational, hosted by the Belmont Hills Country Club in St. Clairsville, Ohio. Baird posted a two-day score of 13-over-par 157 to finish atop a crowded leaderboard.
