WVWC track and field teams have strong showing at home meet

BUCKHANNON, W.Va.—West Virginia Wesleyan track and field hosted the sixth annual Jasmine Claggett Memorial Invitational on Friday. The women’s team took first in overall points while the men took second overall.
 
On the women’s side, Alyssa Kelleher won the women’s 5k posting a final time of 21:37.22. Leigha Hall took second in the 3000m steeplechase, crossing the line in 12:58.37. Lauren Chickosky wrapped up the distance events running a time of 41:34.39 in the 10k.
 
The Orange and Black looked strong in the field events claiming second or better in all six events. Kennedy Kuhns took first place in the Javelin with a season-best of 37.30m. Maggie Kovalcik and Lauren Colbert took first and second place in the long jump, posting 5.18 and 4.91m.
 
Brady Browning cleared 2.85m in the pole vault to take first place. Samantha Cash won the triple jump with a leap of 11.36m. Rounding out the field events were Mikaela Grey taking second in the shot put with a toss of 9.02m, and Kiara Rodriguez taking second in the hammer throw with a final mark of 32.22m.
 
Ny’Tierra Hobbs separated herself from the rest of the field in the 100m dash with an impressive time of 12.11. Hobbs ran 25.93 in a downpour to take first place in the 200m dash. Cash and Aubrey Wiethe took second and third in the 100m hurdles with times of 15.14 and 15.90, respectively. Wiethe also added a first-place finish in the 400 hurdles crossing the line in 67.88.
 
On the men’s side, Tanner Faulkiner won the 100m dash with a final time of 10.84. Devin Taylor claimed third in the event with a time of 11.08. Aaron Kupfner ran 15.27 in the 110m hurdles to run away with the event. Taylor took first in the 200m dash as he crossed the line with a time of 22.31.
 
Hayden Hess took home first place in the 400m hurdles running a solid time of 58.42. Jacob Defibaugh was victorious in the 3000m steeplechase, running 9:57.28.
 
Oliver French took first place in the javelin with a big throw of 50.13m and took home first in the triple jump with a leap of 12.84m.
