BUCKHANNON, WV – WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital recognizes Pastoral Care Week, October 22-28. This nationally-recognized week provides the opportunity to recognize our spiritual caregivers and the ministry which they provide for our patients and the community.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Chaplaincy and Mental Health: It’s Healthy to Get Help” because spirituality and mental health go together: the condition of your spiritual worldview has a direct impact on your mental well-being. The combination of spiritual care, emotional support, and mental health care increases the healing and peace that people seek and leads to a fuller and more balanced life.

St. Joseph’s Hospital would like to introduce their new Director of Mission Integration, Tom Nestor, who is also their Director of Diagnostic Imaging. They would also like to introduce their new Chaplain, Reverend Gage Rewerts. In addition to meeting with patients who request spiritual care, they also provide a non-denominational prayer service each Wednesday in the hospital’s chapel.

Our pastoral care team ensures that our mission of “providing our community with quality healthcare in ways which respect the God-given dignity of each person and the sacredness of human life” is fulfilled every day.
