WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary awards 2025 scholarships

The St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary has awarded its annual $1,000 scholarships to Buckhannon-Upshur High School seniors Ellanora Hines and Kathryn Hamner, supporting their pursuit of healthcare careers and continuing a community tradition since 1990.

The St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2025 healthcare scholarship awards: Ellanora Hines and Kathryn Hamner, both seniors at Buckhannon-Upshur High School. These scholarships, valued at $1,000 each, support local students pursuing careers in healthcare, continuing a tradition of community investment that began in 1990.

Originally established with a single $500 scholarship, the Auxiliary’s program has grown to offer two $1,000 scholarships annually, thanks to the generosity of community donors and the dedication of Auxiliary volunteers. Proceeds from beloved local bake sales and contributions from area residents fund the initiative, which has helped dozens of students achieve their professional goals over the past three decades.

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be residents of Upshur County and have either graduated from high school with a minimum GPA of 3.5 or received an alternate education certificate. They must also be enrolled in an accredited healthcare program that leads to licensure or certification upon completion.

“The applications were judged by four of our Auxiliary members,” said Vonnie Hager, St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Chairman. “It was very hard to choose two from the eight students who applied. We are sure that these two young ladies will do very well in the healthcare choices they have made. We wish them well as they continue their studies.”

The St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary remains committed to supporting the future of healthcare in Upshur County by investing in the next generation of medical professionals. The Auxiliary congratulates Ellanora and Kathryn on their well-deserved recognition and looks forward to seeing the positive impact they will have on their communities.
