Mark your calendar: West Virginia University’s fourth annual Day of Giving is set for March 3, 2021. 

Day of Giving is a 24-hour online event that encourages WVU alumni and friends to support the University’s greatest priorities and opportunities – including scholarships and unrestricted funds at the University and unit-specific levels. WVU Health Sciences and regional campuses in Keyser and Beckley are also included.

Previously held in November, WVU Foundation officials decided to move the event as they seek ways to move the University and state forward. 

“For the past three years, the annual WVU Day of Giving has been a great day across the West Virginia University system,” Executive Director of Annual Giving Kristen Shipp said. “We are proud of the success we have had and are very grateful for our supporters who invest in education, healthcare and prosperity. Now more than ever, it’s important that we be innovative and look for new opportunities to inspire philanthropy throughout the academic year and provide much-needed support to our students, faculty, healthcare and more. 

“In order to further the success of WVU Day of Giving, we have made the decision to hold our upcoming WVU Day of Giving on March 3, 2021. Please mark your calendars to join the entire community for our fourth WVU Day of Giving.”

Since the WVU Day of Giving’s inception, generous supporters have contributed more than $20.4 million to WVU as part of the event. The amount raised has progressively increased each year, from $2.9 million in 2017 to $11.3 million in 2019. Last year, more than 4,000 gifts were made to support the event, promoted as “Our University. Our Future. Our Day.” 

Founded in 1954, the WVU Foundation is the nonprofit fundraising arm of the University. Its mission is to enrich the lives of those touched by WVU by maximizing private charitable support and providing services to the University and its affiliated organizations. 

For alumni and friends who remain interested in providing timely support to WVU this holiday season, the Foundation’s “We Are Stronger Together” scholarship initiative continues to assist WVU students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic with tuition, room and board, and other educational expenses.
