WVDEP-REAP Announces 2020 Litter Control Grant Recipients

35 applicants received grants totaling $94,800

CHARLESTON, WV – The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s (WVDEP) Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan (REAP) announced the recipients of the Litter Control Matching Grants. The grants, awarded to state solid waste authorities, county commissions, and municipalities, totaled $94,800 and were approved for 35 individual applicants.

Funding for the litter control program is generated from 50% of civil penalties imposed upon persons convicted of unlawful disposal of litter and state agency facility recycling revenue pursuant to West Virginia Code §22-15A-4 and §22-15A-5.

The grant recipients are:

Bancroft, Town of $2,500.00
The funding will be used to assist with a town cleanup.

Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority $3,000.00
The funding will be used for the anti-littering campaign for the county-wide
litter program.

Bluefield, City of $4,950.00
The funding will be used for razing dilapidated structures throughout the
city.

Boone County Commission $3,600.00
The funding will be used for Litter Control Officer wages and to assist with
motion activated cameras.

Bradshaw, Town of $2,000.25
The funding will be used for litter receptacles for the city streets.

Brooke County Solid Waste Authority $5,000.00
The funding will be used for Litter Control Officer wages and to assist with
a litter cleanup throughout the county.

Charleston, City of $3,000.00
The funding will be used for laborer wages for a city-wide cleanup program.

Delbarton, Town of $800.00
The funding will be used for signage posts and puncture resistant gloves for
a town cleanup.

Dunbar, City of $5,000.00
The funding will be used for razing dilapidated structures throughout
the city.

Fayette County Solid Waste Authority $800.00 The funding will be used for safety vests and fuel for the Litter Control Officer
for the county-wide litter control program.

Greenbrier County Solid Waste Authority $3,372.00
The funding will be used for a trailer to transport litter collected county-wide
and to assist with educating the public on litter control.

Hancock County Solid Waste Authority $2,980.00 The funding will be used for labor and dumpster rentals for county-wide
cleanup events.

Jackson County Solid Waste Authority $3,000.00
The funding will be used for dumpster rental for a county wide cleanup event.

Kanawha County Commission $3,000.00
The funding will be used for advertising for county-wide cleanup events.

Kenova, City of $1,042.00
The funding will be used for razing dilapidated structures throughout
the city.

Mannington, City of $650.00
The funding will be used for dumpster rental and landfill fees for a city-wide cleanup
event.

Mason County Commission $3,000.00
The funding will be used for Litter Control Officer wages for the county-wide
litter control program.

McDowell County Commission $5,000.00
The funding will be used for razing dilapidated structures throughout
the county.

McDowell County Solid Waste Authority $3,000.00
The funding will be used for Litter Control Officer wages for the county-wide
litter control program.

Mercer County Commission $1,000.00
The funding will be used for trash bags and vests for county-wide litter cleanups.

Mercer County Solid Waste Authority $1,200.00
The funding will be used for trash bags for county-wide litter cleanups.

Mingo County Commission $3,000.00
The funding will be used for the Litter Control Crew wages for the county-wide
litter control program.

New Haven, Town of $460.00
The funding will be used for safety vests, dumpster rental and signage for a town
cleanup event.

Parkersburg, City of $3,000.00
The funding will be used for supervisor wages for the city-wide inmate cleanup
program.

Preston County Solid Waste Authority $2,320.00
The funding will be used for fuel for the Litter Control Officer’s vehicle for the
county-wide litter control program.

Putnam County Solid Waste Authority $3,000.00
The funding will be used for Litter Control Officer wages for the county-wide
litter control program.

Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority $1,365.00
The funding will be used for a front bumper with winch mount and safety lights for
the Litter Control Officer’s vehicle for the county-wide litter control program.

Randolph County Commission $3,580.00
The funding will be used for cameras, signs and disposal fees for the cleanup
of targeted areas throughout the county.

Shepherdstown, Corporation of $1,005.00
The funding will be used for supplies to conduct roadside cleanups throughout the town.

Tucker County Commission $5,000.00
The funding will be used for Litter Control Officer wages, Region 7 GIS tool
development, two litter cleanup days, county education and outreach.

Wayne County Commission $3,000.00
The funding will be used for Litter Control Officer wages for the county-wide litter
control program.

Webster County Commission $3,000.00
The funding will be used for Litter Control Officer wages for the county-wide litter
control program.

Wetzel County Commission $5,000.00
The funding will be used for the razing of a dilapidated structure.

Wood County Solid Waste Authority $675.75
The funding will be used for trash bags for county-wide litter cleanup events.

Wyoming County Solid Waste Authority $2,500.00
The funding will be used for fuel, tires and maintenance for the Litter Control
Officer’s vehicle for the county-wide litter control program.
