West Virginia reports nine new COVID-19 fatalities, two new cases in Upshur County on Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced nine new deaths attributed to COVID-19 on Thursday, raising the state total to 199.

Upshur County reported two new cases of the the virus on Thursday. Statewide, 93 new cases of COVID-19 were identified in the Mountain State, according to the DHHR.

Three of the 43 total Upshur County cases are currently active. No additional information was released about the new cases announced Thursday.

The deaths reported Thursday include a 93-year old male from Fayette County, an 81-year old male from Clay County, a 90-year old female from Mercer County, a 67-year old female from Logan County, a 93-year old male from Logan County, an 81-year old female from Logan County, an 89-year old male from Monroe County, a 90-year old male from Monroe County, and a 72-year old female from Kanawha County.

Twenty deaths have been reported in West Virginia in the last three days, and 83 this month.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m. on August 27, 2020, there have been 413,634 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 9,633 total cases and 199 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Thursday in Berkeley, Boone, Cabell, Fayette, Grant, Hardy, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Mason, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Monroe, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Upshur, Wayne, Wirt, Wood and Wyoming counties.

About 1,661 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 7,773 people have recovered and 199 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.75%.
