West Virginia reports 6,635 active COVID cases, 15 new deaths on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 6,635 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 38 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (98), Barbour (73), Lewis (58), Randolph (87) and Webster (44) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of five active cases in the last 24 hours.

Fifteen additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 70-year old female from Mason County, a 72-year old male from Monongalia County, an 86-year old female from Cabell County, a 76-year old female from Harrison County, a 66-year old male from Lincoln County, a 72-year old female from Harrison County, a 71-year old male from Harrison County, a 40-year old male from Hancock County, an 88-year old male from Kanawha County, a 63-year old female from Cabell County, a 57-year old female from Mingo County, a 72-year old male from Wood County, a 61-year old male from Harrison County, a 66-year old male from Kanawha County, and an 83-year old female from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of November 3, 2021, there are currently 6,635 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 15 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 4,490 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.

About 578 residents are hospitalized with the virus (77% unvaccinated, 23% vaccinated), with 193 currently in intensive care (82% unvaccinated, 18% vaccinated) and 111 on a ventilator (83% unvaccinated, 17% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 6.29%.

A total of 921,634 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.  That’s about 51% of the state.
