The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 479 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 42 since the last report.
Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (3), Barbour (2), Lewis (0), Randolph (7) and Webster (2) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of one active case over the weekend
Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 85-year old female from Wetzel County and an 87-year old male from Greenbrier County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 18, 2022, there are currently 479 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 2 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,796 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.
About 88 residents are hospitalized with the virus (51% unvaccinated, 49% vaccinated), with 31 currently in intensive care (48% unvaccinated, 52% vaccinated) and 11 on a ventilator (55% unvaccinated, 45% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 3.35%.
A total of 972,357 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said. That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 453,007 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
