West Virginia reports 446 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, three additional deaths

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Saturday that 446 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (1), Barbour (2), Lewis (5), Randolph (3) and Webster (1) counties.

A total of 33 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 91-year old male from Raleigh County, an 81-year old male from Wood County, and an 87-year old female from Hampshire County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 17, 2021, there have been 2,602,762 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 148,517 total cases and 2,780 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 7,317 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 138,420 people have recovered and 2,780 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.35%.

A total of 499,540 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
