West Virginia reports 389 new COVID-19 cases, six deaths on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 389 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (5), Barbour (2), Lewis (6), Randolph (3) and Webster (4) counties.

A total of 26 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Six additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 89-year old male from Cabell County, a 69-year old male from Barbour County, an 80-year old male from Harrison County, a 56-year old female from Jefferson County, a 76-year old male from Kanawha County and a 53-year old male from Monroe County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of March 24, 2021, there have been 2,382,655 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 138,818 total cases and 2,619 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 5,581 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 130,618 people have recovered and 2,619 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.01%.

A total of 273,061 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
