West Virginia reports 338 new COVID-19 cases, eight deaths on Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 338 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (2), Barbour (2), Randolph (7) and Webster (2) counties.

A total of 41 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Eight additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 79-year old male from Clay County, an 86-year old female from Kanawha County, a 74-year old male from Lincoln County, a 91-year old female from Wood County, a 79-year old male from Hampshire County, a 75-year old male from Mason County, a 73-year old male from Nicholas County, and an 85-year old male from Logan County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of March 11, 2021, there have been 2,268,871 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 134,496 total cases and 2,338 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 5,305 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 126,853 people have recovered and 2,338 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.23%.

A total of 224,792 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
