The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 2,321 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 204 since the last report.
Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (46), Barbour (16), Lewis (28), Randolph (54) and Webster (8) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of three active cases in the last 24 hours.
Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 89-year old female from Kanawha County, a 90-year old female from Ohio County, and an 82-year old male from Kanawha County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 3, 2022, there are currently 2,321 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been three deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,974 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.
About 176 residents are hospitalized with the virus (47% unvaccinated, 53% vaccinated), with 25 currently in intensive care (36% unvaccinated, 64% vaccinated) and 10 on a ventilator (30% unvaccinated, 70% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 6.77%.
A total of 979,181 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said. That’s about 55% of the state. About 502,258 booster doses have been administered.
