West Virginia reports 229 new COVID-19 cases, one death on Tuesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 229 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (3), Lewis (6), Randolph (3) and Webster (1) counties.

A total of 45 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 87-year old female from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of March 9, 2021, there have been 2,249,748 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 133,856 total cases and 2,326 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 5,424 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 126,106 people have recovered and 2,326 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.72%.

A total of 218,473 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
