West Virginia reports 2,005 active COVID cases, one new death on Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 2,005 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 150 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (31), Barbour (15), Lewis (20), Randolph (28) and Webster (13) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of two active cases in the last 24 hours. 

One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 39-year old female from Berkeley County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 16, 2022, there are currently 2,004 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There has been one death reported since the last report, with a total of 7,017 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 185 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 20 currently in intensive care and two on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 6.85%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
