Wesleyan women rout Glenville 9-0

The West Virginia Wesleyan College Lady Bobcats picked up an impressive win on Wednesday evening, beating Glenville State 9-0 on the road. The win was Wesleyan’s second conference victory of the season.

Wesleyan got on the board early in the 4th minute with an unassisted goal from Natalie Prater. After a 20-minute dry stretch, Shannon Shawgo made the score 2-0 off a pass from Carolyn Saulle.

Wesleyan tacked on another three goals to finish out the half. Marissa Zetty scored her first goal of the season in the 36th minute. Kayla Fay also scored her first goal with an assist from Taylor Maucere. In the 42nd minute, Casey Underwood finished off the first half scoring from Wesleyan with her second goal of the season.

It did not take long in the second half for Wesleyan to get on the board again. Zetty scored her second goal of the game with an assist from Natalie Prater in the 51st minute. Lauren Baumgartner pushed the lead to 7-0, while Alison Crecelius and Taylor Rhodes finished off the scoring for Wesleyan, scoring in the 76th and 86th minutes respectively.

The Lady Cats would end up putting 29 shots on goal for the game.

After improving to 2-0 in MEC play, women’s soccer will be back in action Sunday as they travel to Beckley to take on WVU tech. The game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
