Wesleyan to Celebrate Homecoming 2019: October 10-13

Buckhannon, W.Va. — West Virginia Wesleyan is preparing to welcome alumni, students, faculty, staff, family, and friends back to their home among the hills. From October 10-13, Wesleyan will host Homecoming 2019 with a weekend of entertainment and activities.

To kick-off Homecoming is the inaugural presentation of the “The West Virginia Economy and Well-Being in the Mountain State” which launches the Thomas H. Albinson School of Business at West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Frank Bayard/Kumaran Nair Economics Forum. The forum is set for Thursday, October 10 at 7 p.m. in Culpepper Auditorium in the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts. The forum is free and open to the public.

Friday morning features the Johnny Myers Golf Tournament with competitors teeing off at 10 a.m. at Stonewall Resort. The tournament is named in recognition of longtime golf coach and Wesleyan legend. Proceeds will support the WVWC women’s and men’s golf teams.

The annual Founders Day Convocation will take place Friday, October 11, at 3 p.m. in Wesley Chapel. Charles Evans ’69 will deliver the Founders Day address. The College will also honor men and women who have carried on the tradition of excellence begun at the institution with the Alumni Awards.

The 2019 Homecoming Class of 1969 Reunion Social will begin at 1 p.m. in the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts. At 4:30 p.m., the Emeritus Club Banquet and Induction of New Members provides graduates of 50 years or more an opportunity to reunite and celebrate their alma mater.

A Student Activities and Alumni Relations sponsored Trivia Night will begin at 8 p.m. at the Opera House on Main St.

Saturday morning and afternoon activities include an update on the College by President Joel Thierstein, academic department receptions under the tent in front of Wesley Chapel, a LGBTQ alumni reception at Do Re Mi on College Avenue, sorority teas and fraternity receptions. The annual Picnic Lunch under the tent will begin at 11:30 a.m. before the 1 p.m. kickoff between Wesleyan and Frostburg State University. At halftime, the 2019 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned. Immediately after the game, alumni and friends are welcome to tour the newly renovated Annie Merner Pfeiffer Library and enjoy a s’mores bar and cider by the fire pit outside the new entrance. In addition, the new men’s basketball Head Coach Nick Patella will hold an open practice in the Rockefeller gym at 5 p.m.

Later in the evening, the Decades Reception and Class Reunion Social will offer all Wesleyan alumni a chance to visit in a fun and a casual atmosphere at the Opera House at 7 p.m. Admission fee is $10. The weekend’s activities come to a close on Sunday. Lauren Weaver, UMC liaison and spiritual life coordinator, will be the guest speaker at the 10:30 a.m. Homecoming Chapel Service. At 1 p.m., the men’s soccer will play host to Notre Dame College, OH, at the Culpepper Field.
