Wesleyan men get trounced by 40 against UC in 116-76 setback

CHARLESTON — The Mountain East Conference’s top team, the University of Charleston, welcomed the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats to the H. Bernard Wehrle Sr. Athletic Arena for an overpowering performance that left Wesleyan with its 14th loss of the season 116-76, Wednesday.

Charleston never trailed and outscored Wesleyan by 20 points in each of the two halves. Six Golden Eagles notched double-figure point totals as Shunta Wilson led all scorers with 24 points and seven rebounds. The conference’s No. 3 scorer this season, Eddie Colbert III, added 19 points and seven rebounds.

Wesleyan’s Deiker Padrino, who remains as the MEC’s No. 5 scoring leader (15.6 point-per-game), led all Bobcats with 14 points in a 6-of-13 field goal effort. Wesleyan’s second leading scorer Alex Mirhosseini went 4-of-10 from the field that included 2-of-2 three-pointers, and he led the Bobcat rebounders with five boards. Jalen Canada went 6-of-10 in 13 minutes of play off the bench to score 12 points for the Bobcats.

West Virginia State University, currently fourth in the MEC, travels to Buckhannon Saturday, Jan. 20 for a 4 p.m. tipoff in Rockefeller Center.
